The devastating earthquake in Haiti has caused widespread damage, death and destruction, and recovery will take years. Governments and private organizations the world over have reached out to help the impoverished country with assistance, and the Scottsdale, Arizona based web hosting company GoDaddy.com has made a $500,000 donation to help the relief effort.
The web hosting giant is one of the largest hosting companies and domain registrars in the world. Company founder and CEO Bob Parsons is well known for his philanthropic initiatives, and was quick to step up, sending check to the Hope for Haiti organization immediately upon hearing the news. Hope or Haiti is a well-known organization that focuses on making a difference in Haiti over the long run. The organization focuses on providing nutrition and healthcare, by working with those who already have been successful in ministering to Haiti’s poor.
According to Hope for Haiti’s Executive Director Elizabeth Davison, the organization plans to use the generous GoDaddy donation to rebuild the hospital and orphanage in Port-au-Prince.
GoDaddy has a long history of philanthropy, and has made similar contributions in the past in response to disasters including the tsunami that hit the coast of Thailand in 2004, Hurricane Katrina in the US Gulf Coast in 2005, and flood victims in Iowa in 2008. In 2008, GoDaddy donated a total of $2.5 million to a variety of charities, including those focused on medical research, domestic violence, and education.
GoDaddy’s 7.5 million worldwide customers enjoy easy access to a wide variety of web site hosting plans, domain name registration, and web site design services.
