How to Install Wordpress on Heart Internet Hosting Account

With more than 90,000 new blogs online everyday, it’s no wonder why one of the main reasons for buying a web hosting account is to host your own blog.

In this tutorial, I will show you how to install Wordpress, probably the world’s most popular blogging platform, on your Heart Internet hosting account. Heart Internet is by far one of UK’s most popular web host, well-known for their highly reliable hosting service.

Most web hosting companies offer you the possibility of installing Wordpress using their automated script installer. While this can prove to be very efficient, the problem may arise when a critical update is required. In this case, you’ll have to wait until your web hosting provider adds the latest Wordpress version to their installation tool.

How to Install Wordpress on Heart Internet Hosting

  1. The first step is to create a MySQL database for your new blog. Take note of the database name, user name and password needed to access it.
  2. Next header over to http://www.wordpress.org and download the latest version of Wordpress to your hard drive. There’s a big blue button that says “Download Wordpress x.x.x” on the homepage so you can’t miss it.
  3. Extract the content from the Wordpress archive to a temporary folder on your hard drive.
  4. This step is optional. If you want to install Wordpress in a subdirectory of your website (ie.: http://www.yourwebsite.com/blog), use a FTP client such a Filezilla (it’s free) to create this new directory into public_html.
  5. Make sure the directory is empty. If this is a new hosting account and you want to install Wordpress into public_html, delete the index.html file.
  6. Using your favorite FTP client software, upload the content from the “wordpress” folder you’ve just extract from the archive to your hosting account. You need to upload these in either public_html (to have your blog at the root of your website) or into the new directory you’ve just created in the previous step.
  7. To make sure you’ve uploaded the right content in the right place, you should see the following content the remote directory :
