Peer1 Hosting has just announced that they’ve broken ground to build a new datacenter in Portsmouth, United Kingdom, which when completed will measure a total of 50,000 square feet. They are building this center following the same method that they used to build their datacenter in Toronto. This method allows them to build the center based on demand, which is much more efficient. If all goes according to plan, the first POD will be completed in the Fall of this year.
At the Portsmouth center they will be offering all of their three major hosting options that is, managed hosting, colocation, and dedicated server hosting. Roughly 20,000 servers will be housed at the new datacenter, which shows Peer1’s great belief and trust in the UK market, as well as the forecast that the European demand for server space will double in the next five years. It is also their bid to establish a more global presence.
The company also remains committed to being an environmentally friendly hosting provider. To make this happen, they will incorporate the latest best practices and technologies aimed at reducing the overall carbon footprint and energy consumption at this UK facility. These green practices will include using heat exchangers to enable “free cooling” and using redundant high efficiency VFD centrifugal chillers. In this way, and due to its physical location, the datacenter will be cooled primarily by air from its natural environment.
