On January 19, 2011, Rackspace officially launched their Cloud Infrastructure in the United Kingdom. To celebrate this event, the UK branch of the company held a launch party the Texas Embassy in Trafalgar Square, London. In attendance were some of Rackspace’s current customers, such as Betfair, Pod1 and Netbiscuits, as well journalists as from the BBC, The Telegraph, Wall Street Journal, V3.co.uk, Computer Weekly, Silicon.com, and more.
Lanham Napier, the company’s CEO, was the host of this event and he kicked off the festivities by first discussing the cloud launch in Europe and how this will affect companies in the UK. He also explained how to build a Cloud Server with the help of the new Rackspace Cloud Pro iPad Application.
Rackspace has also made it possible for customers in the UK to access their servers using the newly added Cloudkick control panel. In this way customers can now manage their US, as well as their UK Cloud Servers from a single Cloudkick control panel. Rackspace’s UK cloud offer features Rackspace Cloud Files, which run on OpenStack™ Object Storage, and Cloud Servers, founded on the Xen hypervisor. The company is urging their existing customers to contact them if they wish to also deploy their site on the UK servers, or if they wish to move from the US cloud servers to the UK ones.
